This is why I'm not entirely on board with collapse theorists.

I've heard different versions of the same idea too many times before, yet society somehow keeps going, and the imagined collapse and subsequent utopia never arrives.

Whether from overpopulation, resource scarcity, environmental collapse, economic collapse, cycles of civilisation, or whatever other reason, collapse daydreams always risk being an elaborate cope. An excuse to do nothing, and just wait... and wait...

But how many missed opportunities might come and go while we wait?
