I live in a community with people much older than me and I physically help anyone who needs help. Fixing a faucet, climbing on a ladder to clean their gutters ect... They always try to pay me and my response to them is "no thank you, I have a job where I get paid, I do these things because you are my neighbor". I remember when I was a kid that neighbors helped neighbors and I never saw money exchanged. We need to get back to that place.
