Iβm keen to learn more about this, but from what Iβm reading, this could effectively hand a shadowban tool to Blue Verified accounts via mute and block functionality. These centrally weighted actions would impact the timeline of all users (think social credit score). From a revenue perspective itβs genius. Coordinated groups will gladly subscribe in order to silence dissenting voices. Lists are already used to mass block so theyβd be able to shadowban en masse too.
A βdownvoteβ system only works with transparent counts. E.g my Tweet gets 20k likes (upvotes) and 10k downvotes. Without transparency my post would display 20k likes, but Iβd have no idea my account was simultaneously shadowbanned by 10k mutes/ blocks (downvotes).
This is how opinion is manipulated and dissenters to establishment narratives are silenced. This functionality could remove users ability to curate their own timeline, and place it firmly in the hands of ideological extremists.
