People will fight to hold on to their beliefs, and what they think they know, even when they are confronted with information indicating that said beliefs and/or knowledge may be falsely premised. I think about this often and keep coming back around to this…
The ‘peripheral route’ people are nearly unreachable and largely tuned out. They are the headline readers, low effort news consumers.
The ‘central route’ people are active and make an effort to learn and figure things out.
The former group is far more likely to fall for fake news, manipulation, etc.
The latter group is less likely, because they actively consider the information and then decide what it means.
