Just spoke with someone who was a patient in a Shriners hospital as a child in the 1950s:

-- Ward with 300 girls -- 5 months to 15 years
-- Since the hospital did surgery on so many difficult situations and ailments, they didn’t know if you’d live thru surgery.
-- So parents had to sign a form basically giving their child's life away to the hospital
-- Ostensibly for "care" of course but we know.
-- Parents could visit their child only 1 hour once week. With no hugging or kissing, which was considered detrimental to their health.

Still. We know whose hospitals these are.
