Californium-252 is a synthetic element that is extremely rare and very difficult and expensive to produce. Unlike other elements, it cannot be mined -- at least, not in the traditional sense. Instead, it can only be produced in nuclear reactors or particle accelerators by bombarding lighter elements with neutrons. Commercially, Californium-252 is produced in very small quantities only for scientific research purposes, as it's not feasible, cost-effective, nor practical for individuals or companies to create the conditions to mine it. Thus, priced at anywhere between ~$27 million per gram (publicly) and hundreds of millions per gram, Californium-252 is also one of the most expensive synthetic elements in the world due to its rarity and highly specialized production process. The price varies based on purity, quantity, and market demand

Due to its portability, it is highly applicable for various scientific and industrial purposes, including neutron radiography and neutron activation analysis. It's often used in well logging devices to detect the presence of oil and other valuable minerals for oil exploration, in the experimental stages of cancer treatment, to create unlimited nuclear fission, to facilitate hydrogen development, and to further space exploration 💡

Most notably, Californium-252 is used in MedBed technology, which means that in a few years the demand for it will skyrocket 😅

CERN is indeed under our control, which is now operating at 200% capacity to exclusively produce Californium-252 to facilitate MedBed production and other future use cases. Our reactor can produce up to 1 kilogram per month
