NEW BOOK: Blood, Soil, Paint

https://www.imperiumpress.org/shop/blood-soil-paint/

Blood, Soil, Paint is an essay on Romanticism, but it is much more than that. It clarifies the intersection between blood, soil, language, and culture, and shows how each influences the others. What emerges is a deeper understanding of the nationalist currents that arose in the Romantic era and continue to this day.

This essay suggests that there are ways of knowing the world and people—through action, through experience, through contemplation, through art-making—and that our instincts can reveal to us truths that we unconsciously knew but which outside authorities prefer to obscure or refute. We find these truths also through responding to art and literature. The struggle to reconcile these truths with our personal values and the civic values of our time is the struggle of nationalism and Romanticism.

Dave I want more
Here's the thing with speaking on Heathenry. I still have things to say and still maintain all my positions regarding folkism and pagan theology.

But, I did The Bog for a few years, I worked with Norroena society and dedicated a lot of time to bringing a more intellectual and devotional approach to our faith as it matures and blossoms in this new Renaissance of heathen thought.

I like to think I was one of the early influential forces in this regard. Now I see high level discussion and research everywhere.

While I still have things to say, I said most of what I wanted to say. I want to go back to just being heathen and doing my best to live a heathen life. I'm not actually an academic.

Also when we were first proposing these ideas of authenticity, I stood against a big backlash from McPagans. And I stood against a lot of it alone. I would get death threats and harassment just because I did videos suggesting that polytheists should be expected to actually be theists. They really sperged and targeted a few others and myself. And because I'm a pretty low level platform, I took the brunt of it.

I'm not sorry. The push against boxwine wiccan retards must continue forever. But, I don't have the energy for that fight anymore.

I also don't want to continue trying to squeeze content on a topic that I hold dear. Guys like STJ and Mark Puryear are academics that can keep cranking out dope deep dives into source material and whatnot.

Another issue I had is folks on the internet reaching out to me asking me to give counsel as their Gothi. This was not something I felt comfortable doing.

I'm humbled that folks put that trust in me but I really, really dislike internet religious grifters. You should have an irl, intimate relationship with a local spiritual leader that has real experience and has demonstrated to you that they're worthy of leadership and counsel.

I don't actually know you and you don't actually know me. Parasocial religious counsel feels very wrong to me.

I'm also going through some stuff personally and don't feel that I'm currently fit to give advice to strangers. The lockdowns really screwed my life up and only now am I beginning to normalize.

I'm very proud of my contribution to the faith. But it was time that I quit talking and went back to focus on doing. So, if you wanna do based Folkish religious stuff with me, come to FSH or one of my public events. I'm an open book and my events are very chill and fun.

Maybe I'll get back into strictly pagan content at some point. But, right now I gotta get my life in order. Plus, I wanna have fun selling books and playing my guitar and creating culture.

Ain't nothing changed. Big Dave is forever devoted to the high holy Goðín. But they opened another path for me and I'm going to follow it.

Sorry for the TLDR. But that's why I've switched my content over the last few years.

Also with effortposting:

I don't want to force something to say when I have nothing to say. I think it's good sometimes to have nothing to say.

I know it hurts my reach and growth or whatever. But I don't want to participate in this competition of Johnny Hot takes, where guys keep reaching further and further for takes to get clicks.

It ends up spiralling into a detachment from reality and being contrarian for the sake of it. What comes out are increasingly retarded ideas that end up opposing what we came here for and being a knockoff of current thingism.

I hate it. It's gay and sucks. The worst thing about it is it's a hobby for people who don't actually have hobbies and pretend that it's more than what it is. It's pretentious and boring and a waste of time imo.

At least guys who paint 40k minis get good at painting and end up with cool space marine statues to play games with. You get nothing tangible and no skills from hot take current thingism.

So I don't do it. I'd rather highlight some cool music or forward a based project from people that I like.

Just the way I feel about it. I'd rather spread stuff that makes folks feel good if I have nothing unique or interesting to say.

People have been recommending Black Magick SS to me for a long time. I just couldn't get into it.

The pale, reverby style of recording reminded me of pretentious and obscure black metal that I don't like (I like some black metal). And the harsh vocals with the retro psychedelic music just didn't fit for me. Felt disjointed.

However, my buddy and fellow pulpkvltist AC from @Toadstoolmag recommended "Dinosaurs" which I think is off of their new album.

I love this track. It all clicked for me on this one. The solo rules, the keys are dank, the two styles of vocals create a unique dichotomy within the story of the song.

At face value it's about dinosaurs (based), but this song can interpreted in more abstract ways which is extremely artful.

"Dinosaurs" is about us dreamers out there who don't fit in with mundane society. We find happiness in worlds of fantasy. And to us, those worlds are just as meaningful as mundanity despite present minded NPCs lacking the ability to see it.

Lovecraft said that keener minds know there is little betwixt the real and unreal.

Those of you who follow my writing closely will know that I reference the "Dreamsea" frequently. An imaginal realm where inspiration flows from. I believe very deeply in the rediscovery of imagination.

At face value, Dinosaurs is about a bro who loves Dinosaurs and nobody understands it. But it really resonated with me.

Plus my 5 year old who is obsessed with dinosaurs loved it because dinos rule.

Drop me some more BMSS songs you think I may like. I think I get it now.

🎙 NEW Kulture Dads — THE ELECTRIC GUITAR

👉 Get it HERE

Mike and Dave discuss the foundational sonic element of modern Western culture. The electric guitar forms the backdrop of who we are as peoples, how we tell our stories, and what matters to us. We trace the development of the guitar along with the technological changes that brought us distortion, multi-track recording, and modern production techniques.

The introduction of distorted tone brought the guitar back down to its roots as a folk instrument.

Distortion, fuzz and overdrive gave a single guy the ability to create filling, wide sound that he didn't have before.

Thus introducing the prominence of "the riff". There's always been virtuosos and shredders but the riff gave songwriting power to every bro that had basic chops the ability to transmit the sounds in his imagination into songs.

And that's why rock music and heavy metal became one of the quintessential folk arts of the modern west.

The electric guitar is part of our cultural identity today. Its possibly the most versatile instrument ever invented and it's played by everyone from laymen all the way up to classically trained experts.

Post your favorite guitarists and favorite riffs.
Speaking of based riffs and dank licks. I'm a big ZZ Top respecter. I saw them live twice.
