Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Thursday that any weapons in Moscow's arsenal, including strategic nuclear weapons, could be used to defend territories annexed to Russia from Ukraine.

Medvedev, who also serves as deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, said that referendums planned by Russian-installed and separatist authorities in large swathes of Ukrainian territory will take place, and "there is no going back".

Four security personnel among 11 dead in Iran protests: official toll

Eleven people, four of them security personnel, have been killed in growing protests over the death of a young woman in morality police custody, Iranian news agencies reported Thursday.
Three militiamen were stabbed or shot dead after they had been “mobilised to deal with rioters”, in Mashhad in the northeast, Qazvin in the centre and Tabriz in the northwest, the reports said.
A fourth member of the security forces was killed in the southern city of Shiraz, they said, adding that a protester had also been stabbed to death in Qazvin.

Arrests doctors, patients for vaccine exemption ‘fraud’

Several Hong Kong doctors and more than 20 patients have been arrested over allegedly fraudulent vaccine exemption certificates, police announced Thursday.
Coronavirus vaccines are not mandatory in Hong Kong but the Chinese city uses a QR healthcode system that denies unvaccinated people access to most public premises.
Only those with an exemption certificate issued by a doctor can still access such venues.
Police announced that five doctors, three assistants and 22 patients were arrested this month on charges of “conspiracy to defraud” after tip-offs.
The offence carries up to 14 years in Jail.

Scientists want to spray sulphur dioxide into the atmosphere to refreeze the poles

Scientists presented a controversial plan whereby high-flying jets similar to a modified American KC-135R could spray microscopic aerosol particles into the atmosphere to refreeze the North and South Poles. The recently published research in IOP's Environmental Research Communications suggests that the method would be feasible and fairly cheap.
