The January 6 one year anniversary of the storming of the U.S. Congress building has now passed. More than 700 people have been charged in connection with the attack on the Capitol, most of them for minor offenses such as illegally entering the building. However, several dozen are charged with assault, carrying deadly weapons, as well as conspiracy, which could result in stiff penalties. But what actually took place from the perspective of these so-called terrorists and radicals?

I had the chance to talk with Micajah Joel Jackson, a 26 year old Marine veteran about his impressions of that day and his experience as a defendant for the alleged crimes of January 6, 2021.

Am 6. Januar jährt sich die Erstürmung des US-Kongressgebäudes zum ersten Mal. Mehr als 700 Personen wurden im Zusammenhang mit dem Angriff auf das Kapitol angeklagt, die meisten von ihnen wegen kleinerer Vergehen wie dem illegalen Betreten des Gebäudes. Mehrere Dutzende werden jedoch wegen Körperverletzung, Führen von tödlichen Waffen und Verschwörung angeklagt, was harte Strafen nach sich ziehen könnte. Doch was hat sich aus der Sicht dieser so genannten Terroristen und Radikalen tatsächlich abgespielt?

Ich hatte die Gelegenheit, mit Micajah Joel Jackson, einem 26-jährigen Marine-Veteranen, über seine Eindrücke von diesem Tag und seine Erfahrungen als Angeklagter für die angeblichen Verbrechen vom 6. Januar 2021 zu sprechen.

Fatal overdoses among young people in the U.S. have been increasing amid the opioid epidemic. The death of a 13-year-old student who apparently overdosed on fentanyl at his Connecticut school has drawn renewed pleas for schools to stock the opioid antidote naloxone, as well as for training of both staffers and children on how to recognize and respond to overdoses. The seventh grader died Jan. 15 after falling ill at a Hartford school that did not have naloxone on hand. City officials vowed Wednesday to put the antidote in all city schools, as part of a wider drug use and overdose prevention strategy.
