OATH KEEPERS LEADER TALKS TO JAN. 6 PANEL FROM FEDERAL JAIL

EXCERPTS:
“He is both answering some questions and not answering others under the Fifth Amendment and preserving his due process rights to a fair trial,” Moseley said in an email as the interview was ongoing.

Rhodes’ testimony came as the panel also interviewed Jeffrey Clark, a former Justice Department official who aligned with former President Donald Trump ahead of the violent attack. The committee of seven Democrats and two Republicans has interviewed nearly 500 people, casting a wide net as they try to create the most comprehensive account yet of the worst attack on the U.S. Capitol in two centuries.

🤡It is unusual for Congress to interview federal inmates awaiting trial and for defendants to speak about their case🤡, since they could incriminate themselves. The indictment against Rhodes alleges that the Oath Keepers for weeks discussed trying to overturn the election results and prepared for a siege by purchasing weapons and setting up battle plans

BIDEN JUDICIAL NOMINEES HAVE UNLIKELY ALLY: LINDSEY GRAHAM

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., has supported the majority of President Biden’s federal judicial nominees so far, according to a Fox News Digital analysis of his voting record.

Graham’s frequent support for Biden judicial nominees could simplify the confirmation process for Biden’s forthcoming Supreme Court nominee.

Since his term in office began, Biden has seen 41 of his federal judicial nominations confirmed to the bench by the Senate.

Of the 41 confirmations, Graham has supported 25 of them, meaning the South Carolina senator has voted in favor of more than 60% of the confirmed nominees.

One of the nominees supported by Graham was Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, who is the front-runner on Biden’s short list to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer.

Graham voted against five of the confirmed judges and did not vote on 11 of the nominations.

When asked about the senator’s voting process for judicial nominees and if he would support a potential nomination of Jackson to the Supreme Court, Graham’s office pointed to the office’s October statement on the senator’s judicial nominee voting record.

“When the president wins the White House, they have the right to pick the judges of their choosing,” a member of Graham’s office told Fox News, stating that the senator “believes the constitutional and historical standards are what should be used for judges.”

In a political environment that has become highly polarized – particularly when it comes to presidential nominations – Graham’s approach to judicial nominations harkens back to earlier times when judges were approved based on qualifications instead of ideology.

The Republican Graham voted to confirm both of President Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nominees, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, even though “he did not agree with them,” they added. “Only in the most unusual circumstances should you vote against a nominee.”

The senator raised that point during the Senate’s last consideration of a Supreme Court nominee that saw Justice Amy Coney Barrett confirmed.

PITTSBURGH – One resident of Irwin, Pennsylvania, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on a charge of violating federal law against the sexual exploitation of minors, United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung announced today.

U.S. diplomats, spies may have been hit by electromagnetic energy -report

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Some of the 1,000 U.S. diplomats and intelligence officers hit by a mysterious illness known as Havana Syndrome could have been targeted by electromagnetic energy pulses, according to a report to U.S. intelligence leaders released on Wednesday.

“Pulse electromagnetic energy, particularly in the radio frequency range, plausibly explains” the ear pain, vertigo, and other symptoms of some of those suffering the ailments first reported by U.S. diplomats in the Cuban capital in 2016, experts from inside and outside the U.S. government said.

The panel of experts was convened by Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines and CIA Deputy Director David Cohen.

The combination of symptoms “cannot be easily explained by known environment or medical conditions” among a subset of victims. The number of those people was not disclosed in the report’s unclassified executive summary.

Cases have been reported in Russia, China, Tajikistan and some African countries.
