Risk perception is a key area in health & risk communication that affects how people deal with hazards.

The comparatively lower incidence & case fatality of #COVID19 in Nigeria has been hypothesised to contribute to the low perception of risk in the country.

In our latest peer-reviewed article, we published findings of an analysis conducted on the changes in public risk perception during the first and second waves of #COVID19Nigeria.

The overall goal of Infection Prevention & Control is to maintain an environment of care that minimises risks of infection for patients, staff & visitors

These #IPC guidelines must be practised by all #HCWs in public and private primary, secondary & tertiary healthcare facilities.

Several disease outbreaks have been recorded in Nigeria in the last 10 years with imported cases of #Ebola in 2014, annual outbreaks of #YellowFever, #LassaFever, #CerebrospinalMeningitis, #cholera, #measles, and most recently, #COVID19.

In response to lessons learned from the 2003 severe acute respiratory syndrome outbreak, World Health Organization (WHO) accelerated the revision of the International Health Regulations - essential for addressing global health security, which Nigeria adopted in 2005 and came into force in 2007.

In this article, we share Nigeria's experience of conducting a country-led midterm self-assessment using a slightly modified application of the second edition of the WHO JEE and the new WHO benchmarks tool

Timely access to emergency funding has been identified as a bottleneck in Nigeria's outbreak response.

In February 2019, through partnerships with AFENET Nigeria and Resolve to Save Lives, we established a Revolving Outbreak Investigation Fund (ROIF)

In 2017, the Nigeria #AMR Technical Working Group identified limited diagnostics utilisation & inadequate lab quality assurance as major factors affecting effective pathogen identification & #antimicrobial susceptibility testing in Nigerian health facilities.

In an ongoing collaboration between the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control & Robert Koch Institut, a baseline study was conducted aimed to improve diagnostic stewardship & expand #AntimicrobialResistance surveillance capacity, particularly in Nigerian secondary healthcare facilities.

Recent #mpox outbreaks have included changes to the disease's natural history, symptoms and demographics of infected persons, and the disease's expanding geographic distribution.

Evidence of an increased risk of #mpox infection in adults and an independent correlation with the risk of HIV infection can be seen in this @NCDCgov first-authored publication by @DesolaOgunleye.
