Early Wednesday morning when many people were still sleeping, the first engine of a five-engine, 72-car Union Pacific Railroad train derailed after hitting a snow drift in Monida at the Montana-Idaho border.

A spokesperson from Union Pacific said the train “derailed in an upright position” at about 4:45 a.m. north of I-15 near the intersection of South Valley Road and Snowline Stock Lane.

No damage was sustained, there were no chemical spills and no one was injured, said Beaverhead County Sheriff David Wendt.

Wendt said in addition to the snow, wind speeds probably contributed to the derailment.

Chicago Police officer injured in incident on DuSable Lake Shore Drive near Museum Campus.

Shots were fired by police on DuSable Lake Shore Drive near the Museum Campus Friday night, after a Chicago Police officer was hit by a car.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability said it was investigating after a Chicago Police officer fired their gun. Police said nobody was hit by the gunfire. Police radio indicated that the injured officer was struck by a car.

As CBS 2's Charlie De Mar reported, the officer was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for their injuries. The officer is expected to recover.

Oklahoma: McAlester Police Officer injured in crash in Glenpool.

The officer had to be extracted from the wreckage of his vehicle, and has been transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

McAlester police posted this on their Facebook Friday night: "We ask our community to please keep him and his family, friends and department in your thoughts."
