I attended a homeless outreach today with PA Yorkshire and we got chatting to some homeless men who were in their early 20s. They said there’s an endless cycle where there’s no way out and they kept ending up in prison for theft. When they’re in prison they do jobs where the prison is paid £350 a week for the labour they do for a company but the prison only pays the men £12 a week and keeps all the profit. They said they want people in prison because they can get people to work for next to free. I’d never heard of that before. We are meeting them again on Monday for an interview. They were pissed off about all the migrants being put in hotels.
