“Türkiye has decided to seek to join in South Africa's genocide case against Israel at the ICJ.”

Türkiye will seek to be part of South Africa’s case at the International Court of Justice accusing Israel of committing genocide in Palestine’s Gaza.

The announcement was made by Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in a joint conference alongside his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudion on 1 May.

Submitted in late 2023, the ICJ case resulted in an interim ruling in January ordering Tel Aviv to stop its genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee humanitarian assistance is provided to the enclave.

Both Nicaragua and Colombia have attempted to join in the same case, but the court is yet to make a judgement on their request.

Since Israel's brutal invasion into Palestine’s Gaza, more than 34,500 Palestinians have been killed, most of them women and children.
