Plaster head of a woman from Mycenae c. 1250 BC.

It's about 6 inches high and clearly there was more to it originally but we don't know if it was a statue or something else like a bust.

It's not known if this represents a woman or a goddess but it was found in the part of Mycenae they call the Cult Centre with its temple buildings so perhaps it's more likely to be a goddess.

What goddess could it be?

The marks on the face could be tattoos or makeup and again it's not known what they represent.

Could they be solar symbols and so could she be a dawn goddess like Eos?

Or do they symbolise flowers meaning she's a goddess like Demeter? She was associated with poppies - could they be symbolic poppies?

I don't know, perhaps she's not a goddess at all, just a gorgeous Mycenaean dime piece.
