The architecture behind TON

A standout feature of The Open Network (TON) is its high scalability and throughput achieved through dynamic sharding.

TON Blockchain consists of one masterchain and up to 2^32 workchains, each further divisible into 2^60 shardchains. This design makes TON a blockchain of blockchains, facilitating diverse and interoperable operations. Here's a breakdown of its core components:

▪️ Masterchain: The core directory and primary chain, storing network configurations and final states of all workchains.

▪️ Workchain: The Masterchain splits into individual chains called Workchains. These are customized blockchains tailored for specific transactions or use cases.

▪️ Shardchain: Sub-chains of workchains, identified by a 60-bit shard prefix, allowing for extensive scalability.

TON's architecture addresses scalability and transaction speed issues many blockchains face today. Stay tuned for TON’s first public performance test on October 31, 2023, where TON aims to set a new world record for most transactions per second. Read more here.
