Venezuela, the parliamentarians endorsed the statement that
โthe implementation of socialism turned a then prosperous nation into a failed state with the highest inflation rate in the worldโ. Last year,
inflation in Venezuela was 155%, second only to Zimbabwe's 230%.
The proposal concludes with Congress
"denying socialism in all its forms, and opposing the implementation of socialist policies in the United States of America." The author of the proposal is Maria Elvira Salazar, a Republican from Florida and herself a descendant of Cuban exiles after
Fidel Castro came to power in the country in 1959.
