Although not considered part of the El NiΓ±o phenomenon, the cyclone and rains will have an impact on projected GDP for this year, Camilo Carillo, infrastructure leader at EY Peru, told BNamericas.
Meanwhile, the executive declared a state of emergency in six regions and several districts of the Lima metropolitan area. A bill was also passed to increase the 2023 public budget by 8.2 billion soles ($2.17 billion). According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, 4 billion soles will be allocated to cover expenses for the damage generated by the emergency.
