🇧🇷🤝💥🇻🇪🚩 — In a rare demonstration critical of Venezuela, the government of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) expressed "slight concern" about the human rights situation in the neighboring country.

The statement was made by Minister André Simas, a diplomat in charge of the area, during a session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. He was commenting on a report made on the country by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Austrian Volker Turk.

"Brazil thanks the High Commissioner for the report and shares his concern about the human rights situation in Venezuela", Simas said.

The diplomat added that the country follow "closely" the issue of human rights and "reiterates its willingness to cooperate to develop joint initiatives in the country."

At the same time, he praised the Government of Nicolás Maduro for allowing Turk access to opponents and members of civil society during a visit to Venezuela in late January.
