A CSX freight train carrying hazardous materials derailed in Whitemarsh, Pennsylvania on Monday morning. About 16 out of the 40 train cars were derailed, and some of them contained hazardous materials. This triggered a Level 2 hazmat response. Fortunately, the only material found leaking from the train cars was silicone pellets, which don’t pose a threat to the public. Officials say as a precaution, nearby residents and businesses were evacuated, but there is no indication that more evacuations will be needed. The cause of the derailment is currently being investigated.
