While Ireland and many other European countries currently have severe housing shortages for their native population, we are constantly told immigration has no effect on increasing rental prices and lowering the supply of affordable housing.

Surprisingly few studies have been done on the impact of immigration and housing, but in the ones that have the results are stark. For example, in a 2009 study Immigration and Housing Booms: Evidence from Spain, the researchers found that a 17% inflow of immigrants increased the cost of housing by a massive 52%. From the study:
