Happy 55th birthday, Singapore! 🇸🇬 While this year’s celebrations have had to take a different shape from other years, it is proof nonetheless that Singapore remains undaunted by any challenge.

Taking my oath at the opening of the 14th Parliament yesterday. For the first time, the opening was held in more than one location, due to COVID-19. Parliamentarians were sworn-in at Parliament House and the Arts House.

Gave my first speech of this Parliament earlier today. Spoke about what we are doing to ensure a fairer playing field for Singaporean workers, strengthening our safety nets & the importance of getting our politics right.

Visited the NEA - EHI Mosquito Production Facility. They produce Wolbachia bacteria-carrying male Aedes mosquitoes. When these are released and mate with urban Aedes mosquitoes, their eggs don’t hatch, thus reducing mosquito population. This is one of the ways we are fighting dengue.

Today, we held a virtual Public Service Observance Ceremony for the first time. Thank you to all public officers for your dedication and efforts during this crisis. Without them, we wouldn’t have got thus far.

Visited the COVID-19 screening centre at Blk 402 Ang Mo Kio. As part of our efforts to keep the community safe and healthy, we are offering voluntary swab tests to selected community groups with high frequency of interaction with the public, such as hawkers and food delivery riders.

A bold message to the world from EDB. We are facing the toughest crisis of our generation. COVID-19 will give us a chance to do better, emerge stronger & show what makes us an exceptional nation.

Delivered a message at the virtual Climate Ambition Summit to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the Paris Agreement on 12 Dec 20. Singapore will continue to play our part, and meet our commitments under the Paris Agreement.

Delighted to see the first shipment of vaccines arrive in Singapore – a welcome ‘present’ that we’ve all been looking forward to! It’s been a long and arduous year. I hope that this news will give Singaporeans cheer this festive season, and reason to be optimistic for 2021.

It’s the last week of the year, and most people are staying in Singapore instead of travelling (including me!). It’s a good opportunity to rediscover our local parks and attractions.

I have always been fascinated by trains, and all things to do with trains. So on Monday I took a walk along the Rail Corridor, from Rifle Range Road to Ghim Moh.

Today we began COVID-19 vaccinations, with 30+ healthcare workers at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases. It marks a new chapter in our fight against the pandemic. https://go.gov.sg/w6gku0

2021 brings hope that the darkest days of 2020 are behind us. But the battle against COVID-19 is not yet won. So long as we stay together as One Singapore, I am confident we will blaze a path forward.
