Five years after the first National #JointExternalEvaluation conducted in 2017, how far has Nigeria come in strengthening our national health security?

Today, we are kickstarting the #JEENigeria2023 process with a 5-day self-assessment exercise. This exercise will bring together key stakeholders from all MDAs involved in health security to internally assess our capacities across the 19 technical areas of the #InternalHealthRegulations.

Joint External Evaluation #JEE is one of the four components of the #InternationalHealthRegulations monitoring and evaluation framework.

It is used to measure country-specific status and progress in developing the capacity to prevent, detect & rapidly respond to public health threats.

The results from Nigeria's first #JointExternalEvaluation guided the development of the National Action Plan for Health Security in 2018.

This 5-year plan covered the minimum investments required to effectively prevent, detect, and respond to public health threats and strengthen Nigeria's health security.

3 weeks ago, we commenced the #JEENigeria2023 process with a self-evaluation exercise, bringing together MDA's and partners involved in Nigeria's health security.

Nigeria has made significant strides in strengthening our national health security over the last five years.

Following a rigorous, objective and in-depth evaluation of Nigeria's health security capacities, Nigeria has recorded a health security rating of 54%.

This 54% JEE score, is a major stride from the 39% score recorded in 2017 and reflects the investments made by MDAs and partners involved in health security.

Nigeria 🇳🇬 is one of the first three countries to conduct a second Joint External Evaluation.
