Durante un encuentro en la Casa Blanca, el primero entre ambos mandatarios, el presidente Joe Biden comunicó este jueves a su colega colombiano, Iván Duque, la intención de Washington de convertir al país sudamericano en aliado principal no OTAN, un estatus especial que implica privilegios económicos y militares.
“Hoy me siento orgulloso de anunciar que pretendo designar a Colombia como aliado principal no OTAN”, dijo Biden en la reunión con Duque, quien celebró los 200 años de lazos bilaterales, agradeció al presidente norteamericano ser “uno de los arquitectos del Plan Colombia” y valoró “mucho” su decisión de asignar ese estatus de aliado cercano a su país 🐶 🐶 🐶
“Eso es exactamente lo que son ustedes, un gran, gran aliado no OTAN. Esto es un reconocimiento de la relación única y cercana entre nuestros países 🧛💃”, resaltó Biden.
Añadió que “la relación entre EE.UU. y Colombia es la base para la seguridad y la prosperidad, y va a seguir creciendo con más importancia” 🤥
Duque también ofreció a Biden el petróleo colombiano para estabilizar los precios energéticos en medio de las sanciones a Rusia.

🇪🇨🇨🇴 Ecuador and Colombia start dialogue after suspected military incursion
Ecuador’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility stated that it is engaged in “cordial conversations” with Colombian authorities following Colombia’s claim about a supposed incursion into its territory by Ecuadorian military personnel.
The Ecuadorian ministry did not confirm or deny the incident but stressed that dialogue is being maintained concerning any possible issues surrounding the operation.
Colombia had reported the presence of Ecuador’s Armed Forces on its territory, specifically in the indigenous Yarinal de San Marcelino reservation, located in the department of Putumayo. It was said that the military personnel were conducting an operation against drug trafficking.
This resulted in the activation of diplomatic and military channels between both nations, leading to a resolution that saw the Ecuadorian military retreat to the southern bank of the San Miguel river, with detainees from the operation being released.

The U.S. Embassy in Bogota, Colombia, is warning Americans traveling to the country not to use dating apps after eight "suspicious deaths" of private U.S. citizens.
According to the embassy, the deaths — potentially involuntary drug overdoes or suspected homicides — took place in Medellin between November 1 and December 31, 2023.
The Embassy said it regularly receives reports of such incidents occurring in major cities, like Medellin, Cartagena, and Bogota.
🗣 "Criminals use dating apps to lure victims to meet in public places such as hotels, restaurants, and bars, and then later assault and rob them. Numerous U.S. citizens in Colombia have been drugged, robbed, and even killed by their Colombian dates," the Embassy said.
