🚨🇵🇰🏳️🏴 ~ When the #Taliban took over #Afghanistan in 1996, UK officials knew #Pakistan was "perceived" to have directly aiding it, but continued to arm the government in Islamabad. British policy aided Osama Bin Laden who was then setting up his organisational infrastructure in Afghanistan.

Thousands of students of the Pakistani madrassas had crossed into Afghanistan in 1995 and 1996, advised and armed by the Pakistani army as they gradually took control of Afghanistan’s urban centres.

☆ On Bin Laden:

Pakistan’s intelligence service, the ISI, then helped Bin Laden establish his headquarters in Nangarhar province and agreed to provide him with arms, a deal which was also blessed by the Saudis.

According to US intelligence reports, ISI officers at the level of colonel met Bin Laden or his representatives in the autumn of 1998 in order to coordinate access to training camps in Afghanistan for militants destined for Kashmir.

The ISI is also believed to have tipped off Bin Laden about a series of US attempts on his life in the late 1990s in retaliation for the 1998 embassy bombings in East Africa.

Herbert visited Afghanistan to cover Taliban’s rule in the country.

His latest article about #Afghanistan was featured in "Info Direkt," a magazine considered a mouthpiece of the far-right scene and regularly advertises for the #FPÖ and Germany's #AfD. In the piece, he expressed admiration for the bustling life in the bazaars, claiming to have noticed no signs of desperation in the streets.

The magazine highlighted that Afghanistan was now safe after the "#Taliban's victory over the US occupiers and their stooges," indirectly referencing the Austrian Army, which was also deployed in Afghanistan until 2021. Such travel narratives conveniently fit into the far-right narrative, promoting the notion that refugees can be safely deported to their homelands.

The combined value of these contracts reaches $6.557 billion.

These contracts encompass the extraction of resources such as gold, copper, lead, and iron.

🚨🇵🇰⚡️🏳️ ~ #Torkham border crossing between #Pakistan and #Afghanistan was closed for a 5th day. Pakistani and Taliban border authorities held a fresh round of talks Sunday to try to resolve the standoff but the meeting ended without any positive outcome.

Nangarhar interim government’s info department in a statement said border officials of both countries met and agreed to open Torkham crossing, but Pakistani side has asked for time to discuss it with high ups. No timeframe agreed during the meeting.

Afghanistan traders said to have lost over $1.5m worth of goods due to being struck at the border.

Afghanistan heavily depends on Pakistan’s sea ports for trade.
