Don’t let your background determine who you will be.

I know some of you may have had troubled childhoods, disfunctional families and less than desirable circumstances growing up, but difficult beginnings will have made you far more resourceful and resilient than those that had it easier from the start.

Use this to your advantage and think of it as early important lessons.

You can’t change the past, so make use of it positively, no matter how negative it may have been. Choose to let it empower you, instead of weaken you.

Often the difference between those that achieve what they want and those that don’t, lies not so much in their abilities but in their mind set.

A child that grows up in an impoverished environment often sets their goals within certain parameters, ie; they cap their ambitions to what they think ‘people of their kind or background’ can achieve.

Whereas those that experienced a more privileged start, simply grow up thinking anything is achievable.

The difference between the two, is in many cases not ability or intelligence, but simply the mindset.

Don’t let where you start determine where you may finish. At the end of the day, your life is your responsibility, what you make out of it is entirely up to you.

Is life fair? No.
Is life easy? No.
Do some people get a better start? Yes.
Can you change any of the above? No.
But can you make the best of what you have and dare to dream big? Absolutely!

Everything is a mad rush these days, I’m always having to do everything fast, as if there was a timer on me. It’s exhausting, but I find that if I don’t rush, I simply won’t get everything done. And even if I rush, I still I don’t! 🤪

I often reminisce about the long blissful summers I enjoyed when I was in my teens, there was this wonderful sense of having lots of time at my disposal. Time was not an issue back then, it was not a ‘thing’ and it was definitely not running away from me like it does now, slipping through my fingers at an increasing vertiginous rate!

Now I run around all day in order to get things done. It seems to me that we’ve had to synch up with the speed of technology; emails come and go in seconds, messages fly in and out instantly, we swipe videos constantly, news are old news in a matter of a day… everything is fast, accelerated, overwhelming and exhausting.

I have even noticed how adolescents don’t even have the patience to listen to a full song! Half way into it, they flick to the next one! 🤦🏻‍♀️

I not only dream of a better world, where truth, freedom, common sense and morality rule, I also dream of a world where we get our time back. Where we can afford to do things that require lots of time and patience, where we can stop and chat to people at our leisure, where we can enjoy reading a good book not only whilst on holidays, where we have time for one another… Yes, I dream of having time move slowly, at a pace that is conducive to a humane and healthy life…

I guess I’ll have to keep on dreaming… ❤️🙏🏻❤️
