πŸ‡¨πŸ‡²πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Canada says Cameroon warring parties agree to enter peace process

The government of Cameroon and some separatist factions in the English-speaking regions of the country have agreed to enter into a process aimed at resolving a conflict, Canada's foreign ministry said.

The statement said Canada had accepted a mandate to facilitate the process and the parties have agreed to form technical committees to begin work on confidence-building measures. Anonymous source in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's office said that there had already been three "secret meetings".

Parties of the agreement are: the Republic of Cameroon, the Ambazonia Governing Council, the Ambazonia Defiance Force, the African People's Liberation Movement, the Southern Cameroons Defense Force, the Interim Government, the Ambazonia Coalition Team.

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸŒ Canada, USA and the race for Africa

Colleagues from Maple Chronicles found interesting news regarding the Canadian humanitarian aid to Malawi and Mozambique

Updates are coming in. Canada is also going to provide support through its Emergency Disaster Assistance Fund with the Canadian Red Cross: $30,000 to support the response by the Mozambique Red Cross Society; $250,000 to support the response by the Malawi Red Cross Society.

It is not the first time Canada is involved with Africa this year. Previously, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's office said that the country is organizing "secret meetings” between the Cameroonian government and rebels from Ambazonia Defence Forces (although Cameroon denies it).

Moreover, in DR Congo Canadian companies won a gas block on Lake Kivu and began exploration of lithium deposit near the town of Lubumbashi.

As it seems Canada, alongside its ally the USA, is trying to improve the positions on the African continent. Whether this is a joint initiative between the offices of Joe Biden and Justin Trudeau remains to be interpreted.

One thing is for sure - Western Countries enter the race for Africa. As many US officials have confirmed this year, this has a sole purpose of countering the influence of China and Russia. And, of course, to increase their own benefits.

This year promises to be an interesting one, especially given Algeria’s entry into the BRICS this summer, China’s plans to strengthen its position on the continent, grain and energy problems due to Ukrainian crisis, etc.

The race for Africa is in full swing.

πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Two people killed in blast in Nigeria at Canada embassy

An explosion at Canada's High Commission in Nigeria's capital, Abuja, has killed two people and injured two others, Nigerian officials say.

A fire broke out when generators, containing 2,000 litres of diesel, were being serviced, a spokeswoman for Nigeria's emergency services said.

The two people killed were Nigerian maintenance workers. They were taken to a hospital in Abuja and are being treated for severe burns.

Canada said the cause of Monday's explosion was being investigated.

But at this stage "everything points to an accident rather than a deliberate act", Canada's foreign affairs ministry said.
