🇺🇸🇨🇳Border Patrol apprehensions of Chinese nationals at southern border up 800%

📈According to Customs and Border Protection statistics, there have been 1,862 Border Patrol encounters with Chinese nationals between October, when the fiscal year began, and the end of December. That’s compared to 229 in the same period in FY 2022, which would be a more than 700% increase.

They are typically processed for expedited removal unless they claim to have a credible fear of persecution in China.

As a result, many are claiming that fear and are subsequently being released into the U.S. on their own recognizance and with a notice to appear for a court date for their immigration hearings.

🇭🇳🇨🇳Honduras President announces plan to seek formal ties with China

President Xiomara Castro of Honduras announced that she had instructed Foreign Affairs Minister Eduardo Reina to begin negotiations with Beijing about opening official relations.

The move will likely end Honduras’s formal relations with Taiwan. Castro promised to seek diplomatic and economic ties with China during her 2021 presidential campaign.

In response to the news, the Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed "serious concerns" to the Honduran government.
