🇲🇽🇺🇸Mexico president asks Biden to stop USAID funding opposition groups

Mexico's president asked his U.S. counterpart Joe Biden to stop the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) from funding groups hostile to his government, according to a letter presented to journalists on Wednesday.

🗣"The U.S. government, specifically though USAID, has for some time been financing organizations openly against the legal and legitimate government I represent," he said in the letter.

"This is clearly an interventionist act, contrary to international law and the relations which should prevail between free and sovereign states."

The letter calls for Biden's intervention, saying the U.S. State Department in recent days announced that USAID would increase its funding toward such organizations.

🇺🇸 Gun rights organizations sue New Mexico governor over gun violence order

The National Association for Gun Rights filed a lawsuit against New Mexico’s Democratic governor and health secretary Saturday over orders declaring gun violence a public health emergency and suspending open and concealed carry laws in cities and counties based on crime statistics.

The lawsuit, filed in the US district court for New Mexico on Saturday, lists Lujan Grisham and New Mexico Department of Health Secretary Patrick Allen as defendants.

The National Association for Gun Rights argues in the lawsuit that the orders violate the Second Amendment.

🇺🇸🇲🇽 Border Patrol releases thousands of migrants on San Diego’s streets

U.S. Customs and Border Protection releases migrants to the streets of California’s second-largest city because shelters are full. Since Sept. 13, about 13,000 have been dropped at transit stations with notices to appear in immigration court at their final destinations in the U.S., with about 500 more arriving daily.

Migrant aid groups blame a mix of circumstances for the shelter crunch: reduced government funding; CBP’s practice of sending migrants from Texas and Arizona to be processed in San Diego; and a surge in illegal crossings.

Before they are released in San Diego, some migrants being dropped off have been waiting between a double-layer border wall or camping under Border Patrol watch in remote mountains east of the city. CBP closed a major pedestrian border crossing from Tijuana, Mexico, on Sept. 14 and assigned more officials to processing migrants.

🇺🇸 Only 2,100 New York migrants applied for work authorization — none have been approved yet to fill reported 18,000 job openings

New York City officials reported Wednesday that only 2,100 of the more than 40,000 adult migrants in its shelter system have applied for work authorization.

In September, Biden’s Department of Homeland Security extended temporary legal status to hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers. Since the announcement, no migrant has received federal approval to work.

Approximately 472,000 Venezuelans who arrived in the country before July 31, 2023, are eligible for Temporary Protected Status for 18 months and legally able to work. The DHS extended the TPS status to the migrants “due to extraordinary and temporary conditions in Venezuela that prevent individuals from safely returning.”

Following the DHS’ announcement, Democratic New York Governor Kathy Hochul stated that her office identified 18,000 private-sector job openings in the state that migrants with legal work status would be eligible to fill.

On Wednesday, New York City officials admitted that a little over 2,000 migrants had applied for work permits and that not one individual had been approved so far.

🇺🇸 Migrants now living in cars outside NYC hotel amid space crunch with area dubbed ‘New Ellis Island’

The dire shortage of shelter space in NYC has forced some asylum seekers out onto the street and into cars parked in plain view outside the Roosevelt Hotel in Midtown Manhattan — which one official dubbed “a new Ellis Island,” a new report said.

At least four migrants who said they were booted from city shelters were spotted sleeping in cars in recent weeks just feet from the hotel that serves as the city’s main intake site for thousands of asylum seekers from the US border.

City officials have struggled to find space for the nearly 70,000 migrants from the US border who are being housed and fed by taxpayers — among the more than 165,000 who have arrived in the five boroughs since the spring of 2022.

🇺🇸 Biden freezes licenses to export gas, imperiling projects

The Biden administration on Friday halted the approval of new licenses to export US liquefied natural gas while it scrutinizes how the shipments affect climate change, the economy and national security — a moratorium likely to disrupt plans for billions of dollars in projects.

🗣“We will take a hard look at the impacts of LNG exports on energy costs, America’s energy security and our environment,” President Joe Biden said in a statement.

“This pause on new LNG approvals sees the climate crisis for what it is: the existential threat of our time.”

Texas is the country's largest natural gas exporter and the third largest in the world.

US Intelligence Officials Say Israel Not Close To Defeating Hamas

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/us-intelligence-officials-say-israel-not-close-defeating-hamas

Israel has not even come close to defeating Hamas through its military offensive on the Gaza Strip, US intelligence officials have said.

According to the New York Times, the officials told members of Congress earlier this week that while Israel had managed to degrade Hamas’s fighting capabilities, they were still very far from crushing the organization itself.

Officials also said that given the nature of Hamas' military wing as a fundamentally "guerilla" force, defeating the group might not even be possible and that simply weakening their combat strength might be a more realistic goal

Their comments come despite repeated insistence from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the defeat of the Palestinian group was the ultimate goal of his country's ongoing attack on Gaza.

In a press conference late on Wednesday, Netanyahu vowed to continue Israel's military offensive until "total victory" was secured, saying his country would achieve this "within months".

"We won't settle for less," he said, as he rejected a ceasefire plan proposed by Hamas.

🇺🇸🇭🇹🇻🇪🇨🇺🇳🇮 Judge upholds program allowing migrants from Haiti, three other countries into the US each month

The Biden administration can keep operating a program that allows a limited number of migrants from four countries to enter the U.S. on humanitarian grounds after a federal judge on Friday dismissed a challenge from Republican-led states.

🔻21 states, led by Texas, had argued that the program is forcing them to spend millions on healthcare, education and public safety for the migrants. An attorney working with the Texas attorney general’s office in the legal challenge said that the program “created a shadow immigration system.”

However, U.S. District Judge Drew B. Tipton said the states had not shown they had suffered financial harm because of the humanitarian parole program that allows up to 30,000 asylum seekers into the U.S. each month from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela combined. That was something the states needed to prove to have legal standing to bring the lawsuit.

🗣“In reaching this conclusion, the Court does not address the lawfulness of the Program,” Tipton wrote.

The White House welcomed the ruling. An appeal by Texas and the other states seems likely.

🇺🇸🇭🇹🇯🇲 Blinken in Jamaica for talks on Haiti at 'critical moment'

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Monday he hoped to make progress on the security and humanitarian crisis gripping Haiti as he held talks with Caribbean leaders in Jamaica.

Blinken, who landed in Kingston on Monday afternoon on a trip organized at the last minute, said this was a “critical moment” for Haiti, where spiraling violence by armed groups threatens to bring down the government.

The State Department said in a statement that Blinken in Jamaica would "discuss a proposal developed by (the Caribbean Community) CARICOM and Haitian stakeholders to expedite a political transition in Haiti through the creation of a broad-based, independent presidential college," a reference to a proposed committee that would oversee Haiti ahead of elections.

🇺🇸🇭🇹 US deploys Marine anti-terrorism unit to Haiti to protect embassy

A Marine anti-terrorism unit has now been deployed to protect the American embassy in Haiti, U.S. military officials say, as violent gangs continue to generate unrest in the Caribbean nation’s capital.

🗣The U.S. Southern Command said in a statement early Wednesday that at the request of the State Department, it deployed a "U.S. Marine Fleet-Anti-terrorism Security Team (FAST) to maintain strong security capabilities at the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and conduct relief in place for our current Marines, a common and routine practice worldwide."

"The U.S. Embassy remains open, and limited operations continue, focused on assistance to U.S. citizens and supporting Haitian-led efforts to secure a peaceful transition of power," it added.

🇺🇸🇭🇹 Florida Republicans ask Biden to allow Navy to aid in interdictions of Haitian migrants

A group of Florida Republicans is asking President Biden to allow the Navy to conduct maritime interdictions and interceptions of migrants fleeing from Haiti amid the unfolding chaos in the country.

Florida Republican Reps. Matt Gaetz, Gus Biliarakis, Anna Paulina Luna and Daniel Webster all signed the letter sent to Biden calling on him to declare an “anticipated mass migration of aliens en route to, or arriving off the coast of, the United States.” They referenced an executive order signed by former President George W. Bush to address illegal migration in the Caribbean region.

🗣“A declaration pursuant to Executive Order 13276 is necessary to reinforce the State of Florida’s efforts by utilizing Department of Defense vessels to conduct maritime interdictions and interceptions of aliens from Haiti and repatriate them, preferably to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, as this limits the financial obligation of U.S. taxpayers,” the lawmakers wrote.

🇺🇸 The U.S. cities Biden is flying hundreds of thousands of migrants in controversial program that sparked national security fears

The vast majority of migrant flights President Joe Biden's White House is transporting directly from foreign countries to U.S. airports to bypass the southern border are landing in Florida.

A new analysis from the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) reveals that 326,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela arrived in Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' state since the program started in January 2023.

Lawyers for Biden's immigration agencies refused to disclose through a FOIA request data on which airports were receiving the undocumented migrants, claiming it would compromise safety and create national security 'vulnerabilities.'

🇲🇽 Mexico sounds alarm over 'zombie drug' sedative in opioids

Mexican public health officials are sounding an alarm after a study discovered the presence of animal tranquilizer Xylazine in opioids in cities on the country's northwest border with the United States.

Known by names like "tranq dope" and "zombie drug," Xylazine cut into heroin and fentanyl has in recent years worsened the opioid scourge in U.S. cities like Philadelphia.

On April 8, Mexico's health ministry in conjunction with the mental health and addiction commission issued an alert "for health personnel and first responders in Mexican border cities for possible adulteration of heroin and fentanyl with Xylazine."

Because it is a sedative but not an opioid, Xylazine can make opioid overdose reversal treatments less effective and raise the risk of fatal drug poisoning, while also causing severe skin abscesses that can be life-threatening.

🇺🇸 Biden admits over 400,000 immigrants into the US by expanding 'lawful pathways': CBP

The Biden administration has flown over 400,000 migrants into the United States since January 2023, according to a monthly update from Customs and Border Protection.

The administration's Department of Homeland Security previously announced new processes to allow nationals from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to request to come to the U.S. "in a safe and orderly way."

Individuals are considered on a case-by-case basis and must have a supporter already in the country.

Supporters can be other refugees or asylum seekers. They are required to demonstrate "sufficient financial resources to receive, maintain, and support the individual(s) whom they commit to supporting for the duration of their stay in the United States."

🇺🇸🇲🇽 Top assassin for Sinaloa drug cartel extradited to US to face charges, Justice Department says

A top assassin for the Sinaloa drug cartel who was arrested by Mexican authorities last fall has been extradited to the U.S. to face drug, gun and witness retaliation charges, the Justice Department said Saturday.

Néstor Isidro Pérez Salas, also known as “El Nini,” is a leader and commander of a group that provided security for the sons of imprisoned drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, and also helped in their drug business, federal investigators said. The sons lead a faction known as the little Chapos, or “Chapitos.”

🗣“We allege El Nini was one of the Sinaloa Cartel’s lead sicarios, or assassins, and was responsible for the murder, torture, and kidnapping of rivals and witnesses who threatened the cartel’s criminal drug trafficking enterprise,” U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a news release Saturday.
